About Us

Our Mission: We are devoted entirely to the propagation of Lindy Hop, the original Swing Dance, developed in the Savoy Ballroom in New York City in the 1930's and its many variations developed throughout the years (Jitterbug, East Coast and Triple Step Swing). Although Lindy Hop is an 8-count Swing Dance, today's Lindy Hopper incorporates many dances and movements into a single swing evening. It is not uncommon to see a Lindy Hopper doing Charleston, Balboa, Lindy (8ct) and Jitterbug (6ct) throughout the night! We are especially enamored with the "vintage" feel of the truly American Folk Dance!

Our Methods:
CincySwing sponsors Swing Dance Workshops in April (the Lindy Asylum), November (the Smorgasbord of Swing) annually and our New Year's Eve Swing Dance Party (five years running) boasts about 150 dancers sharing the vintage sounds of a Big Band Orchestra and the festivities of New Year Eve.  We also are co-proprietors of the "SwinGallery" which is Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky's only weekly Lindy Hop venue (Thursday evenings at 9pm) (see our Dance Calendar).

Terry's Bio - Terry began his dance career in July 1998, co-founded and became Webmaster of CincySwing three months later. From that moment on he has devoted countless hours to keeping Swing alive in Cincinnati. With CincySwing reaching over 116,000 hits in January 2006, the website and newsletter have become central points of communication for Swing Dancers in the Greater Cincinnati area. Terry has studied Swing Dance with many of the most gifted instructors in the Country including Ryan Francois and Jenny Thomas, Steven Mitchell and Virginie, Jonathan Bixby and Sylvia Sykes, Frankie Manning, Erik Robertson and Sylvia Skylar, Hasse and Marie, Peter Stromm and Caitlan George and Kevin St. Laurent and Carla. CincySwing continually sponsors Swing Dances and Workshops in the Greater Cincinnati Area. His love for Lindy Hop is only matched by his wife and partner, Kandy. Together, they have competed and placed in local and regional dance competition and every now and then have taken a first place position home with them. In January 2001, Terry and Kandy, along with some other swing fanatics, formed the "SwinGallery" which is now Cincinnati's premier weekly Swing and Lindy Hop Venue and boast a turnout of nearly 70 dancers per evening. CincySwing has donated sound equipment to local venues in order to make dances even better than they are. Terry's Quote: "Girls Love Guys That Can Dance"

Kandy's Bio - Kandy has been teaching ballet, jazz, tap and swing since she was 12 years old. As a trained Arthur Murray instructor she has bridged the gap between Ballroom and Swing to bring true dance style to her expression rich style of Lindy Hop. She has recently added Belly Dancing and Argentine Tango to her vast repertoire!  Being a lover of dance she was swept away by the never ending freedom afforded by Lindy Hop and was eager to co-found CincySwing.com to help grow the swing dancing scene in Cincinnati. Devoting numerous hours, Kandy has done everything from choreography to catering to keep Cincinnati's swing scene alive and fun. Relying heavily on technique, frame and timing, she brings passion of the dance to her Lindy Hop students. Along with husband Terry, they have competed and placed in local and regional dance competition and every now and then have taken a first place position home with them.  Kandy's Quote: "When I dance I'm young & beautiful, Dancing fills my heart and frees my soul"
